Desert Animals Scene Sand Craft

This is an idea for an arctic animals craft using toothbrushes to give the illusion of a snowstorm. Here I'm using the idea to create a sandstorm.

Materials:

  • sheet of yellow construction paper
  • desert animals templates from card stock
  • dark yellow or beige paint
  • sand
  • scissors
  • tape
  • glue
  • toothbrushes

Directions:

  1. Beforehand, prepare cut outs of desert animals from card stock. Animals would include, camels, lizards, snakes, scorpions, vultures, etc. Maybe even a pyramid.
  2. Place cut outs on the yellow paper, use tape on the bottom if necessary as not to slip.
  3. Dip toothbrush into beige paint and pointing downwards, flick the brush with your thumb, to lightly splatter the paint around the edge of the templates. This is difficult for very small children, so instead, hey can brush the paint directly on the paper around the templates. Allow to dry This creates a sandstorm effect.
  4. Apply white glue along the bottom of the paper and draw some sand dunes with the glue. Then cover with sand and pour off the excess.
