This is a math concepts craft lesson my daughter did. We were teaching about shapes and patterns. She made some recurring patterns with foam shapes, then glued them on a paper strip for a headband.
Materials:
- construction paper
- foam shapes
- glue
- scissors
- stapler
Directions:
- Beforehand, cut 2 strips about 4 inches wide down the long side of a sheet of construction paper. Lay the strips end to end and staple together to make one long strip. Make one for each student.
- Give students foam shapes and demonstrate making repeating patterns like: square, triangle, square, triangle...Have students try with the shapes. Later have them try to make a pattern with three shapes.
- Let them glue their finished patterns on the paper strip.
- Check the fit around their head and staple into a loop. Have them wear their new shape headbands.
