Permanent Sand Castle Craft

This is a fun permanent sand castle craft, good to do after an excursion to the beach.

  • sand
  • water
  • paper plate
  • flour
  • sugar
  • pot
  • spoon
  • stove
  • small paper bowls, shapes, pudding cups, etc.
  • decorations, sea beads, small shells, etc.

Wheat Paste recipe:
  1. Combine 1/3 cup of flour and 2 tbsp. of sugar in a saucepan.
  2. Slowly pour 1 cup of water, while stirring.
  3. Stir over low heat until the mixture thickens. (makes 1 cup)

  1. Combine 6 cups of sand with one cup of wheat paste. (recipe below)
  2. Add water until the mixture is sticky and packs firmly into shapes.
  3. Press mixture into bowls or other shapes.
  4. Place the shapes onto a paper plate.
  5. Add accents like shells, beads or a toothpick flag. Allow to dry overnight.

  1. Do you think the wheat paste could be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container until you need it? I am using this as an art project with my summer camp preschoolers.

  2. That would be a good idea. I might even refriderate it, but the wheat paste should be soft and warm when you mix it into the sand, otherwise it won't mix well.
Good luck. Please send pictures after your camp.

  3. Hello! I just would like to give a huge thumbs up for the great info you have here on this post. I will be coming back to your blog for more soon.

  4. "They have a surprisingly light substance and take away a more well, it's better than anything standard to see how some people still make a quality post.
