Desert Animals Sandstorm Craft

I was inspired by the arctic animals snowstorm craft idea and wanted to make one for desert animals in a sandstorm. This technique uses an old toothbrush to splatter the paint over a template. I really like the effect. This is great if you're doing a unit on desert animals. Here, I used a camel, tortoise, and scorpion, but you could use others.

Materials:

  • tan construction paper
  • yellow paint and tray
  • old toothbrush
  • desert animal templates
  • card stock
  • scissors
  • glue

Directions:

  1. Find some simple desert animal stencil templates such as camel, scorpion, tortoise, armadillo, road runner, etc. and cut out from card stock.
  2. Lightly glue the templates onto beige or tan paper so they stay in place. This is important as after becoming wet, the templates will start to curl.
  3. Dillute some yellow paint in a tray with a little water. Dip your toothbrush in the paint, and using your thumb, flick the paint all around the edges of the animal templates.
  4. Remove the templates and allow to dry. It will look like the animals are walking through a sandstorm.

  5. This Desert Animals Sandstorm Craft is such a fun and imaginative project! It beautifully captures the unique adaptations of desert animals and the dynamic environment they live in. I am a father of a toddler and and on a remote job of offering assignment help for Law students. I have to entertain my kid along with my work, I love this idea to make him busy!
