Phases of the Moon Craft

This is a very simple idea to teach the phases of the moon and their names.

Materials:

  • sheet of black construction paper cut in half lengthwise
  • outlines of moon phases and their names
  • yellow crayon
  • scissors
  • glue

Directions:

  1. Prepare simple drawings of the four main phases of the moon and their names: full moon, half moon, crescent moon, and sliver.
  2. Students cut out moons and names.
  3. Fold black paper in half and then half again to make four equal sections.
  4. Students glue on the moons in correct order and the names below.
  5. Color the moons yellow.
  6. Don't forget to teach them new moon, you can't see it.
