This is a fun collage that's great for Independence Day, Flag Day, or Memorial Day. This can be an individual craft, or if you have a big class, divide into groups of about 4 and make bigger flags.
Materials:
Directions:
You can take this same concept to make flags of any nation. The Japanese flag would be easy on white paper. I like the Butan flag, it has a dragon on it. You could line the classroom with your international flags. It more work, but much more interesting than just coloring flags.
Materials:
- 1 sheet of blue construction paper with flag outline
- colorful old magazines
- gold tempura paint in shallow dishes
- blunt pencils
- scissors
- glue
Directions:
- Beforehand, have students bring in a lot of old magazines.
- Also, Beforehand get an outline of the American flag from a coloring page and copy onto blue construction paper.
- Have students go through old magazines and tear out pages with lots of red and white. Cut or tear red and white into small pieces.
- Glue the magazine scraps on to fill in the 7 red and 6 white stripes on the flag.
- Dip the blunt end of a new pencil in gold paint and stamp 50 stars onto the blue field. Or an old-fashioned flag with 13 stars. If you have small star stamp, that's good, too.
