Puffy Paint Earth Day Craft

If you're looking for a good Earth Day craft or doing a unit on space, here's a great craft idea. It's a shaving cream, puffy paint Earth.

Materials:

• shaving cream
• shallow tray
• blue and green paint
• craft stick
• card stock
• black sheet of construction paper

Directions:

1. Cut a large circle from white card stock.
2. Fill a shallow tray with shaving cream.
3. Dribble blue and green paint on top of the shaving cream.
4. Use a craft stick to gently mix the colors on top(not too much).
5. Press the white circle on top of the cream and gently press down.
6. Peal off the circle to reveal the Earth.
7. Place Earth on a table and use a craft stick or squeegee to wipe off the excess cream and paint. This is an important step as if you don't, the the paint will be too thick and become a flaky mess when dry.
8. Allow Earth to dry, then glue on a sheet of black paper to look like the Earth in space.
9. Add a special Earth Day title or message if desired.

You could use the same idea and mix different colors for other planets like Mars or Jupiter. You could even make a whole Solar System for your class.

Winter Igloo Paper Bowl Craft

Here's an authentic looking igloo craft from a paper bowl and decorated with puffy paint and packing peanuts. This is a great craft for a winter unit or learning about Native Americans.

Materials:

• large paper or Styrofoam bowl
• toilet paper roll
• old cereal box
• puffy paint(white glue x shaving cream)
• scissors
• packing peanuts

Directions:

1. Cut out the back of a cereal box to serve as the base.
2. Cut the toilet roll in half lengthwise to make the arch like opening of the igloo.
3. Cut a hole on the side of the paper bowl, insert the toilet roll and tape in place.
4. Make puffy paint by mixing equal parts white glue and shaving cream in a bowl.
5. Spread puffy paint all over the cereal box base.
6. Set the paper bowl igloo on the base.
7. Spread puffy paint all over the outside of the igloo.
8. Attach packing peanuts all over the outside of the igloo.
9. If desired, place an Eskimo or arctic animal to in your diorama and allow to dry.

Dinosaur Bones Fossil Craft

Here's a great idea to make dinosaur bones using cardboard, tissue paper and glue. I think using puffy paint would also look good, too.

Materials:

• thick cardboard
• scissors or sharp knife
• glue
• water
• tissue paper or toilet paper

Directions:

1. Draw dinosaur shapes of thick cardboard like a skull and bone and cut out.
2. Mix water and glue in a bowl. Make balls of toilet paper and dip into glue, then stick on your bones. Allow to dry.

This craft has a great 3D look. You might also try puffy paint. Why not make a whole skeleton for a display!? You could use the bones to play party games too, like a treasure hunt or play hot bone instead of hot potato.

Snowman Puffy Paint Craft

Here's a great looking, 3D puffy paint snowman.

Materials:

• sheet of light blue construction paper
• puffy paint(equal parts white glue and shaving cream)
• green tree, yellow sun, and black snowman hat cut from construction paper
• 3 buttons
• 2 google eyes
• 1 piece of candy corn
• glue
• scissors

Directions:

1. Draw a snowman outline on the blue paper by hand or from a template.
2. Make puffy paint by mixing equal parts white glue and shaving cream.
3. Fill inside the snowman outline with puffy paint.
4. Put on eyes, buttons, and nose on snowman.
5. Glue on tree, sun, and hat.
6. Add more puffy paint for snow or cloud details.

Polar Bear Puffy Paint Paper Plate Craft

Here's another great puffy paint polar bear idea. Simple and easy and looks great.

Materials:

• 1 paper plate
• puffy paint (mix equal parts white glue and shaving cream)
• 2 white circles for ears (the picture shows cosmetic sponges)
• 2 big google eyes
• black circle or Oreo cookie

Directions:

1. Make puffy paint by mixing equal parts white glue and shaving cream. Mix well.
2. Cover the bottom of a paper plate with puffy paint.
3. Add paper ears or sponges, eyes, and a black paper nose or Oreo cookie. Allow to dry.

Don't eat the cookie. After drying, the paint maintains its puffy texture.

Polar Bear Puffy Paint Craft

I thought  this was a fabulous idea when I saw it; making two kinds of simple textured paint to create a unique polar bear craft. Pure genius!

Materials:

• puffy paint and sandy paint(see directions below)
• sheet of light blue construction paper
• polar bear template to trace
• pencil

Directions:

1. Find a simple polar bear template and trace it onto the blue paper.
2. Carefully spread puffy paint on the inside of the polar bear.
3. Paint the bottom with sandy paint for the ground. Allow to dry.

The paints will retain a unique texture when dry.

Combine equal parts craft sand and paint in a cup and mix well.

Make these special paints right before you use them. Afterward, they will take longer to dry than average paint. You can add a little colored paint to change the color.
