Easy Halloween Jack-O-Lantern Craft

Here's an easy Halloween Jack-O-Lantern craft activity. This is greart for preschool students or very young children.

Materials:

• blank pumpkin coloring page
• orange crayons
• scissors
• black construction paper
• glue

Directions:

1. Find a blank pumpkin coloring page from the internet and give to the child.
2. Let them color the pumpkin orange.
3. Pre-cut Jack-O-lantern eyes, nose, and mouth from black paper, or let children try.
4. Glue the face pieces on the pumpkin.

Summer Folding Fan Craft

This is a simple summer folding fan craft idea. Great to beat away the heat.

Materials:

• white construction paper
• crayons/paints
• colorful carpet tape or other thick tape

Directions:

1. Completely color a sheet of white construction paper. You can use crayons or paints. Use summer theme motifs, the more colorful, the better.
2. Accordion fold the paper lengthwise.
3. Tape one end with colorful tape.
4. Unfold and fan yourself.

Halloween Secret Door Haunted House Craft

Here's an easy and fun way to make a Halloween haunted house craft. This idea comes from my daughter's Japanese elementary school craft project using a craft knife to make little doors and windows in paper. Should only be done under adult supervision.

Materials:

• black card stock or thick paper
• colorful paper
• scissors
• glue
• crayons
• pencil
• craft knife
• cutting surface

Directions:

1. Draw doors and windows on the black paper using simple geometric shapes.
2. Place paper on the cutting surface and use your craft knife to cut the secret doors and windows leaving the hinges in place.
3. Cut pieces of colorful paper to fit behind each door and glue in place.
4. Draw a scary ghost or monster hiding behind each door. Boo!

Secret Door House Craft

Here's a cute craft my daughter did. They were teaching 2nd graders how to use a small craft knife like a box cutter in her Japanese elementary school. Only do this under adult supervision. Use it to make a secret door and window house. It really lets kids imagination grow.

Materials:

• sheet of white card stock
• colored paper
• crayons
• scissors
• glue
• craft knife
• cutting surface.

Directions:

1. Put your white card on your cutting surface.
2. Draw door or window shapes that can open.
3. Carefully cut the shapes with your craft knife, leaving one side for the hinge.
4. Cut pieces of colorful paper big enough to fit behind each door, window and glue in place.
5. Open the doors and draw a little picture behind each.

Use the same concept to make your own advent calender.

Animal Rubbings Craft

Here's a simple and fun animal rubbings craft idea.


Materials:

• animal coloring page templates
• white glue
• paper
• crayons

Directions:

1. Find simple animal drawings from coloring pages and print out or trace your own.
2. Trace the animal outlines with a thick line of white glue and let dry overnight.
3. Lay paper over the templates and rub with the sides of a crayon to make the outline come out.

Black Magic Crayon Scratch Craft

This is a really fun and simple idea to create magic art with black crayons.

Materials:

• white card stock
• colorful crayons and lots of black crayon (or use black paint)
• toothpick or Popsicle stick

Directions:

1. Completely cover your card stock in rainbow colored crayon.
2. Then, completely cover it on top with black crayon.
3. Take a Popsicle stick and scratch a design and reveal a magic picture.
4. If desired, paste a sheet of construction paper to the back for a frame.

You can also use a couple cots of lack paint instead of crayon for a more professional finish, but I think crayon works just as good.

Shadow Drawing Craft

This is a really fun and creative drawing activity to do outside. It reinforces concepts of shapes and patterns.

Materials:

• big drawing paper with a drawing surface underneath like cardboard
• pencils or crayons

Directions:

Children take their drawing paper and pencils outside. They find interesting shadows on the ground, place the paper under the shadows and trace the lines and shapes. Tree leaves and branches are good. Also good are jungle gyms, chains, fences, etc. They can even trace each other shadows. For expansion, you can discuss how shadows change as the sun moves, eg. When the sun is high shadows are short, when the sun is low, shadows are long. You could also introduce a sun dial.

Sand Drawing Craft

This simple craft idea can be used to reinforce lessons in writing letters, or numbers. It can be messy, so it's better to use a tray for the sand. If you have a large class, you could do it together on the floor on top of a large tarp. Then collect the excess sand.

Materials:

• white paper
• glue in squeeze bottles
• sand
• tray

Directions:

1. Draw letters, numbers, or designs on the paper with glue.
2. Place in a tray of sand and cover, then pour off the excess and allow to dry.

Ocean Sounds and Drawing Craft

This is an interactive visualization activity and craft to enhance your students listening skills and creativity.

Materials:

• Ocean sounds CD
• paper
• crayons

Directions:

1. Play a CD of nature sounds(ocean sounds).
2. What do you hear? How do you feel?
3. Have students draw pictures as they listen.

Use the same concept for other nature sounds; a forest, river, pond, a city.
