Here's a spin on the usual paper dolls craft to teach the fairy tale of the Gingerbread man.

Materials:

  • brown construction paper
  • pencil
  • gingerbread man cookie cutter
  • scissors
  • crayons
  • scrap paper, decorating materials
  • hole punch
  • glue

Directions:

  1. Accordion fold the paper 4 times or so.
  2. Trace a simple gingerbread man on the front along the fold. You could use a real cookie cutter.

  4. Show some gingerbread man pictures and decorate your men. A hole punch is great for making eyes and buttons. Display your gingerbread men around the room or on the Christmas tree.

Fairy Tales, The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg Craft

Here's a simple craft to teach the Aesop's fable, "The Goose that laid the Golden Egg". In the story, a woman has a goose that lays one gold egg a day, but she is greedy and wants all the gold at once. She kills the goose and cuts it open, but finds nothing. The story is a little cruel, but this craft is innocent and cute.

Materials:

  • 1 sheet of blue construction paper
  • simple goose template cut from card stock
  • egg cut from card stock
  • scissors
  • glue
  • craft feathers
  • crayons
  • "The Goose that laid the Golden Egg" title

Directions:

  1. Have the goose and egg cut out beforehand, or let student's do it.
  2. Color a face on the goose and color the egg gold or yellow.
  3. Glue the goose and egg to the blue paper.
  4. Glue craft feathers onto the egg.
  5. Print out the title and glue to the top or have students write it themselves. Display your golden geese.
